The Alberta Express Entry Stream enables Alberta to suggest capable individuals from the Government of Canada's Express Entry pool. Within this stream, qualified candidates can be chosen for nomination either through general draws or if they are highly skilled tech professionals following the Accelerated Tech pathway.

Introduction

If you have strong connections to Alberta or can contribute to the government's economic development and diversification goals, you may qualify for the Alberta Advantage Immigrant Program, formerly known as the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP).

Selection through Nomination:

Being nominated by a Canadian province brings significant advantages. You not only gain an extra 600 points in the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) but also receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residence in a subsequent draw from the Express Entry candidate pool.

Inclusion of International Graduates:

This program also considers international graduates who have completed their studies at a Canadian post-secondary institution. They, too, have the opportunity to be considered under this immigration stream.

General Express Entry Stream Selection Criteria:

To be eligible for the Alberta Express Entry stream, you need to first receive a Notification of Interest (NOI) letter from the province. The AAIP (Alberta Advantage Immigration Program) will directly contact eligible candidates through their Express Entry profile.

Only those candidates who have received an invitation or NOI letter from the AAIP can proceed to submit an application for a provincial nomination under the Alberta Express Entry Stream. The selection process by the AAIP is based on the self-declared information present in the candidate's Express Entry profile.

A Notification of Interest may be extended to you if you meet the following criteria:

  • Possess an active Express Entry profile in the federal Express Entry pool.
  • Express an interest in permanent immigration to Alberta.
  • Engage in an occupation that supports Alberta's economic development and diversification.
  • Attain a minimum CRS (Comprehensive Ranking System) score of 300.

Additionally, the AAIP is more likely to select candidates with one or more adaptability factors. These factors include:

  • Holding a valid Alberta job offer and/or possessing work experience in Alberta.
  • Being a graduate of an Alberta post-secondary institution with a valid Alberta job offer.
  • Having a parent, child, brother, and/or sister who is a permanent resident or Canadian citizen living in Alberta.

It's essential to note that you must receive an email request to submit an application to the program. However, certain factors may decrease the likelihood of receiving a NOI letter, such as:

  • Having an Express Entry profile that expires in three (3) months or less.
  • Working in an occupation listed in the High-wage and low-wage occupations in the province of Alberta or on the Occupations not eligible under the Alberta Opportunity Stream or in a field experiencing a significant number of submissions across all AAIP streams.

Accelerated Tech Pathway Selection Criteria:

The Accelerated Tech Pathway is a streamlined immigration program designed for individuals in the technology sector, both from within Canada and overseas, who are currently employed or have a job offer from an Alberta-based tech industry employer in a qualifying technology occupation.

To be eligible for consideration under this pathway, Express Entry candidates must fulfill the following criteria:

  • Maintain an active Express Entry profile with a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 300.
  • Hold a full-time job (at least 30 hours per week) or possess a job offer in Alberta from a technology employer in a qualifying occupation.
  • Complete an online form provided by the AAIP (Alberta Advantage Immigration Program), offering details about their Express Entry profile and the tech-related job in Alberta. This form is to be completed once they confirm meeting the assessment criteria.

After submitting the online form, the AAIP ensures that the candidate meets the minimum eligibility criteria to apply. Candidates meeting these criteria will then receive an email invitation from the AAIP to submit a comprehensive application for provincial nomination.

The completed applications are then pooled with other eligible applications. Subsequently, the AAIP conducts a thorough review to determine suitability for provincial nomination.
